Fine Dining With Quail (Quail Farming)

The quail industry in Australia is thriving; farmers can’t keep up with demand. Quail eggs and meat are highly sought after delicacies. Quail is the largest game bird industry in Australia with 6.5 million quail slaughtered each year with a value of over AU$35 million. Quail are a small ground-nesting game bird in the pheasant […]

Animal Transport

They call it “livestock transport”, when what it really is is as many animals pushed on to a truck as possible with no care about the weather conditions or the duration. 2 degrees or over 40 degrees, animals bred for food are still forced on to trucks and made to endure long trips to abattoirs […]

It was the last day of duck season, June 2015. Whilst the hunters bagged up their morning duck bodies, lambs were being born in the dead of winter all around the state. Driving past a paddock, two duck rescuers, on their way to another lake, saw a pile of white on the paddock horizon. They […]

I do love the way you write about each animal’s story. I know you probably don’t have time right now but they would make a marvellous book.

Amazing photography. How did you get into an abattoir?

Dina Strange - February 20, 2014 - 3:53 am

Beautiful. Thank you so much!

I get accused of anthropomorphism all the time. I get told that I put human attributes on animal’s feeling and emotions. Strangely enough, the people who accuse me of this, never spend any time with animals or they profit from the farming of animals. I have spent enough time with animals of many species to know […]

have you read “animal equality: language and liberation” by Joan Dunayer. She speaks of the qualities of non-human animals and of the language we use to objectify them. She speaks to advocate use of language identifying them specifically as the individual persons they are. Particularly her chapter on animal attributes describes much research past and ongoing which provides proof of the abilities of the non-human as equal and superior to human animals in regard to language, love, appreciation of beauty, rationale and more. I loved that book. You, much more than I will appreciate its veracity.
