Trouble and Greedy

One cold night in mid June, 2013, two rescuers found a couple of little lambs near death in an icy field in Victoria. They had been abandoned by their mothers because their mothers could not look after the twins and triplets they had just given birth to. Ewes find it difficult to feed more than one lamb, especially in the icy cold of a Victorian winter. Two little lambs between 0-1 day old lay in a paddock waiting for death until two rescuers picked them up and secured them a future in this world.

Without their mother’s colostrum, these two little boys had to be strong to get through. They were brought to us so we could foster them for a weekend. A weekend turned into a week. A week turned into two. Two weeks turned into a month. Then the time came where we couldn’t actually think about giving them back. We named the little boy with the darker nose, “Trouble” and the little boy with the brown tipped ears “Greedy”.

After three months of bottle feeding and me being an over protective helicopter mum, they are now sleeping outside with the flock and grazing with their heads down all day. They are the best of friends and always will be.Their relationship reminds of us our first ever pair of sheep, Lefty and Righty. They are affectionate, cheeky, sweet, sensitive little boys who will never know how lucky they are that they got picked up by two kind souls that dark, freezing night.
