Meet Nanatoo (aka “Nipper”). Yes, you read that right -Nanatoo. The Mighty Boosh fans will be smiling but the rest of you might be a bit confused about the name.

“Nanageddon” is an episode of the comedy series number 2 from “The Mighty Boosh”. It’s about Nanatoo, a Nana in a wig who is a little bit angry and her scream is blood curdling.

So why the name? Well, this Nanatoo is one angry lady, so much so that her old name used to be “Angry Chicken”. Nanatoo (Nana for short) screams the most dramatic scream when she hears you coming to take her off her nest. When you go to remove her from her nest, she attacks you whilst sceaming with such drama. Once she is out of the nest, she calms down and likes a bit of a pat under the chin. Try and take this girl of her nest and she will try and kill you!

Here at Lefty’s Place, we don’t believe in breeding chickens when there are so many alive that already need our help. Nana is a chronic brooder and she will sit on her nest for days with no water and no food in the most determined way, so I really have no choice but to remove her from her nest. She will sit in the hottest nesting box all day and night if I let her. So at the moment we play the game of her crazy screaming at me. attacks, then I give her pats under the chin and then she runs outside and eats and hang out with the other chickens very happily….and repeat.

Nanatoo was advertised on Gumtree. She was a backyard chicken who had stopped laying and was no longer wanted. Chickens are so disposable in our society. They are so much more than an egg.

I really love Nana. I love her feisty determination and her will to fight me every single time. She screams at me for other reasons as well, like if I’m in her way or she’d like some more oats or just doesn’t like the look of me.
