There was a party last weekend (7th June)!
A huge sheep party for Trouble and Greedy who turned one!
Pancho wore a hat, Limpy wore a hat, even Whiteface wore a hat but Righty would not be seen dead in a hat.
Seems such a long time since I first met both of them and they sat in the passenger side of the car up to Lefty’s Place with me.

Bobby Bob Bob was taken out of the tiny battery cage that she shared with five other hens and put into a car on her way to a new life in March 2014. Bobby was chosen to be rescued because of her extremely strange looking neck and face and she was obviously the most bullied in that cage.
She spent the few weeks in a foster home before coming to live with me. Bobby has a crushed vertebrae from either rough handling or having her head stuck in the bars. She has a lung infection. She has a half cut off bottom beak. She has nerve damage to one of her eyes and she has a screw in her gizzard. If Bobby were a dog or a cat, her carers would be prosecuted for cruelty, but because she is seen as nothing in the animal agriculture industry but money, she has suffered so greatly and no one is accountable.
This beautiful little chicken just wants to be with us. She is my shadow and always wants to know where I am. She is on daily pain medication and will be for the rest of her life.
This happy little pudding (that’s her nickname) skips around the yard talking to us all the time with her nerve damaged eye, her crushed vertebrae, her mangled mouth and beak, her poor eyesight, a slight wheeze from her lungs and that screw sitting in her gizzard. She seems oblivious to all her problems and loves life so very much. Food, life and licking are Bobs favourite things. Our sweet Bobs. She is a joy to know and brings sunshine to the day.

Please think of all the girls who haven’t been this lucky and are still suffering in tiny cages with horrifically painful injuries like this. Choose kindness over eggs.

In Gone With The Wind, Melly was never the strong one physically, but she was strong in heart and compassion. Scarlett was brash and forthright and fought for what she wanted and needed in an upfront manner.
These two little ladies have just been named “Melly” (on the left) and “Katie Scarlett” after these two strong women in Gone With The Wind.
These two little girls were born into an intensive hatchery and were meant to live their 18 month life as layers in either a cage system or a free range system. They were debeaked along with thousands of their sisters and were being primed for a life of egg laying where their bodies would be used only for the eggs they produce.
To all the women reading this, would you like to be used only for the eggs you produce and then slaughtered when you can no longer produce them? I certainly wouldn’t…

My new series, “The Abattoir”. A work in progress which will portray animals in their final hours and minutes before they are slaughtered.
Animals are herded off transport trucks by dogs and aggressive, loud men. Terrified, they run into the pens where they await their deaths. They are killed for human consumption, animal by-products and clothing. Humans and their insatiable appetite for animal parts causes so much fear for billions and billions of animals.
We all see the meat in the supermarket aisle, but we never see the individuals who are slaughtered for it. That is what this series is about. These beautiful animals who are about to be slaughtered will get the chance to look into my camera for the first and final time to tell you (through my lens) that they love their lives and want to live.
