Chickens

Chickens are one of the most used and abused animals on this planet. Each year, over half a billion baby broiler chickens are killed for their meat in Australia and around 12 million chickens are locked up in battery cages to produce eggs for humans to eat.

Chickens are highly sociable and clever birds. Each one is unique and each one has a distinct personality (like all animals and humans).

My collection of chicken images includes ex-battery hens, roosters, broiler chickens, Sussex hens, Australorp hens, Rhone Island Red hens, show chickens and much more. There’s over 200 photographs of chickens here and lots more to come. As you can probably tell, chickens are an all time favourite of mine.

Precious Pigs

Pigs are smart, social, playful and intelligent animals. They are smarter than your average dog and also smarter than a three year old child. Despite this, in Australia, 6 million pigs are killed for their flesh each year.

The images of pigs in the slideshow below were taken at various farms, children’s farms and animal sanctuaries (including Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary).  Whilst taking these photographs over the years, I have been completely charmed by pigs. I have had muddy kisses from pigs. I’ve had pigs smear mud all over my lens and clothes. I’ve had piglets steal money out of my sister’s bag. I’ve had pigs calmly let me take photos of them from every angle. I’ve had pigs want to play and move so fast that photography was impossible. Every single experience I’ve ever had with pigs has been an absolute pleasure. I love pigs.

Peafowl

Very few people will look past a male Indian Peacock in full display. They have to be one of the most beautiful birds in the world.

In my collection of Peafowl images, I have male Indian Peacocks, female Indian Peahens, Green Peafowls and White Peafowls.

Cats

Enjoy a collection of my cat images spanning over 18 years. From our lovely cat Jiffy, who we grew up with, to our recently departed little lady Chicken and to Mr love cat himself, Bruce, who is also dearly missed.

Never trust a person who doesn’t like cats.

Free As A Bird

Birds are magnificent, highly intelligent animals whose need to fly and be part of a flock is part of their natural state of being, a behaviour that is as important to them as language is to humans, yet humans consistently force these animals to live in cages for their own pleasure. To keep a dog or cat imprisoned in a small cage for their entire life would be viewed by the general public as “cruel”, yet this welfare issue seems to be overlooked by many people when it comes to birds. To keep a captive bird is to deny it of its basic rights to an avian life.
